There are so many great traditions at 劳伦斯 学院, but I definitely have my personal three favorites.
One of my favorite traditions at 劳伦斯 学院 is “勺子狩猎.” This game takes place for a week during the fall term. The goal of the game is to have the highest number of spoons by the end of the week and, 如果你赢了, you are usually given a gift card to Dunkin or another favorite LA spot. On the Monday morning of 勺子狩猎, faculty members pass out plastic spoons to the students in their advisory. On the outside of the spoon is your name, and on the inside of the spoon is the name of the person you have to tag out of the game. Throughout each academic day of that week, the campus is chaotically consumed by students and faculty (yes, faculty too!)短跑, 避开, and hiding so they can tag their person out while trying to avoid getting tagged out themselves. Once you tag someone out, you get to take their spoon and go after the person who they were hunting. Some faculty and students are so invested in this game that they will look up the schedules of their competitor and hide outside of the buildings so they can get their prey. One rule is that you cannot be tagged out while inside a building, but as soon as you step outside, you are fair game. This tradition always brings excitement and competitiveness to campus, and even if you get out right away, it’s still so fun to watch!
Another one of my favorite traditions are advisory meals. Coming in as a new student, you are assigned a faculty member as your advisor for the year. My advisor quickly became my mom on campus and the other students in my advisory were my family. During the spring term, we get to have a meal together which eases the stress of final assessments and helps us to celebrate the end of the year. One year in advisory, we met early in the morning before classes and had breakfast at my advisor’s house. She cooked waffles, coffee cake, made coffee, and had many other things to make the meal delicious. Another year, my advisory went to a restaurant together and had dinner. Yes, the food was delicious! 然而, what made it the most fun was spending time with the other members of my advisory outside of school.
Finally, my third favorite tradition here at LA is 一整天. 一整天 usually takes place in the spring term near the end of the year. Each grade is provided with a shirt to wear, and we compete in many different activities to determine an ultimate winner. Volleyball on the lawn is one of my favorite games to play. Being on the varsity volleyball team, it is always entertaining to see other athletes and students play. 很明显, the game is never run and scored in the traditional sense, but it is still fun and hilarious. Another fun field day activity is the relay races. You have to run through the quad and complete activities along the way. It always gets very competitive and usually, a lot of people fall and trip throughout the course. Field day is one of the events that make the spring term the most fun at LA.
